In his personal career, GVSU Associate Professor in the Department of Visual & Media Arts, Bill Hosterman primarily works with printmaking. This print was originally part of an exhibit Hosterman had with friend and retired GVSU Professor Ed Wong-Ligda titled “The Land.” In the exhibit, Hosterman’s prints with Wong Ligda’s paintings combined to explore ways in which we visualize and interact with the land. Hosterman believes that humans define land with lines and borders in order to find a sense of identity. In his work Hosterman investigates this relationship between the natural environment and the human journey of finding a sense of self.
