Medium:Paper and Heelball
Date:1970 – 1980
Paper and Heelball; Black paper with bronze wax. In a full suite of armor, pointed helmet, dog at his feet looking up at him. Mustache
Wax rubbing of the funerary brass of William Wilcotes (d. 1411). The original brass is located in St. Michael’s Church in Oxfordshire, England. The full brass also includes his wife who is unnamed. The dog at his feet is believed to be a reference to a dog he had in life since it is looking up at him adoringly instead of off to the side in the way that symbolic dogs have tended to be depicted.
