Description:
Paper; Heelball; Mounting Board: White paper and gold wax. Woman with a headdress/veil. Large Mantel with two tassels hanging down by her feet. Mantel decorated with stripes, crosses and stars. There is a lamb and cross on her left shoulder.
Historical Context:
Wax rubbing of the funerary brass of Elizabeth Bray (1573). The original brass is located at the Church of St. John the Baptist in Hertfordshire, England. Elizabeth was married four times and had at least eleven children. This brass is located at her first husband’s grave, it is unclear if she is also buried here since she moved and remarried after his death.
