Description:
Wood and Plastic; A facsimile of a English funerary brass, made out of plastic so that rubbings can be taken from it without hurting the real brass. A man with short hair is kneeling on a tasseled pillow, his hands closed in prayer.
Historical Context:
Replica of the funerary brass of Thomas Golde (d. 1525). The original brass is located at St. Bartholomew Church in Somerset, England. This is a replica of the brass designed for tourists to be able to create their own rubbings after it was decided that the original brass needed to be preserved. Rubbings can still be taken from this replica.
