Historical Context:
Wax rubbing of the funerary brass of John Pernard (d. 1451). Original brass is located at St. Andrew Church in Cambridgeshire, England. The full brass includes his first wife Ellen Swynerton (d. 1440) and second wife Elizabeth Sakevyle (d. 1464) who commissioned the brass of the three of them together. John is wearing armour that was probably more decorative than practical with its large bulky plates.
