Description:
Paper and heelball; blue paper with silver wax. This is a brass rubbing of a tomb in England. Woman with hands clasped in prayer, buttons down her dress and a circular veil covering her head. A small dog sits at her feet.
Historical Context:
Wax rubbing of the funerary brass of a woman who is identified only as the first wife of Sir Reynald de Malyns (d. 1384). The original brass is located at St. Andrew’s Church in Chinnor Oxfordshire, England. She has a small dog at her feet, since it is looking up at her it is speculated that it represents a pet she had in life.
