James Brandess is a local Michigan artist who's studio in Saugatuck recently celebrated its 15 year anniversary. He attended the School of the Arts Institute of Chicago as a student. While there, he accepted a work-study position at Ox-Bow in Saugatuck, Michigan. James brings his love and support of art to his community. The “Saugatuck Portrait Collection”, an on-going project started in 1993, currently contains 246 portraits of town residents. James honors his community by tutoring elementary students and by contributing to the support of Ox-Bow as a member on the Auxiliary Board, which includes a yearly scholarship that bears his name. Along with his own painting and printmaking, James teaches painting workshops at his studio.
