Description:
Photo collage of GVSU campus; Cook Carillon clocktower created from selfies of President Haas.
Historical Context:
During the presidency of Thomas J. Haas, it was his tradition to take selfies with students—no matter the circumstance, he prioritized his relationships with the students of GVSU. This collage was created with the collection of submitted selfies from students and alumni as a gift in honor of his retirement in 2019. This image is brought to life with 7,776 tiles. At the Cook Carillon clocktower in 2006, Haas was given the nickname “T. Haas.” As a tribute to the Haas legacy of shaping students’ lives, their professions, and their societies, this mosaic collage is titled “Shaping Lives.”
