"Light, for me, is a powerful part of creation and is redolent with theological implications...Light, literally and metaphorically, holds the presence of God mysteriously-it is incarnational. It is God’s presence, but it is not God." - Douglas R. Gilbert
This work comes from an 8 year project by Michigan photographer Douglas R. Gilbert. Traveling across Italy, Gilbert photographed the light of Italy in landscapes and throughout cities and churches. The resulting collection of photographs is entitled "Italian Light", and was first exhibited in Italy in the spring of 2010. Douglas Gilbert gifted his entire collection and archives to the GVSU Art Gallery in 2018.
