Description:
Four clay disks that are in a stack wrapped in a paper map with Arabic writing. Each clay disc has an image of a hand at the center on one side. Other side is blank.
Historical Context:
Round clays discs that were sold at mosque in Damascus to pilgrims. Purchased in Damascus, 1994. These clay disks were sold at the mosque of Sayyeda Zaynab in Damascus. They served as souvenirs for the many Iranian pilgrims to this holy site, and some Shia Muslims would use these to rest their heads on while praying. Allah, the Arabic word for God is stamped here.
