Historical Context:
This is the final part of an old Shi’i devotional poem that often appears in old prayer books. It is both prayer and poem. Oh, Merciful Lord, from your endless blessings bestow upon me Paradise Save me from the fire of hell; I ask for forgiveness from Almighty God The Lord will bless anyone who reads this prayer Depending on his honesty and purity; I ask for forgiveness from Almighty God Whoever dies and makes a home in the earth His condition improves; I ask for forgiveness from Almighty God Those whom God has sent to accompany him, become his Munkar and Nakïr Within the tomb, he is thus his servant; I ask for forgiveness from Almighty God Whoever recites this prayer at dawn with eyes wet with tears Will never see harm; I ask for forgiveness from Almighty God These blessings belong to those who recite this prayer
