Historical Context:
Regarded as one of the country’s most prominent printmakers, Rudy Pozzatti’s career began at the University of Colorado where he intended to study medicine. But, after a chance meeting with the head of the Art Department, his emphasis quickly changed to fine art. In 1952, a trip to Italy with his wife would forever change Pozzatti’s relationship with art. “I’ve never been the same since,” he said of the impression made on him by the abundance of centuries-old art and architecture. In 1979, along with fellow master printmaker David Keister, an affiliate professor at GVSU, Pozzatti began Echo Press, an innovative workshop dedicated to the art of printmaking.
