Mary Cassatt was an American painter and printmaker from Pennsylvania. Cassatt lived most of her adult life in France, where she first befriended Edgar Degas and eventually was exhibited among many Impressionists. She was known for her images of the social and private lives of women, with a particular emphasis on the intimate bonds between mothers and children.
