Historical Context:
Haitian artist Joanne Celestin, continues to paint in her unique style with bright colors and bold, intricate designs. Celestin says that she finds life in the work she does and creates art because she believes in the healing and light that art can provide the world. She hopes that her work can be a beacon for those who view it to find energy and joy within. Today she works as the gallery director for the Jacmel Arts Center, empowering more women in her community to find power and life through art. She continues to prove the stereotypes of Haitian women wrong and demonstrates the important role women play in society. Her goal is to better the entire country of Haiti by helping one woman at a time seek to make their talents known and to share them with the world.
