Historical Context:
In this series of images, GVSU student photographer Austin Sullivan focuses on the concepts of paranoia and anxiety. Each image uses symbolic cues and popular culture themes to visually represent paranoia, asking the viewer to relate to and bring their personal memories when feeling the anxiety of his images. Regarding this body of work Sullivan states, “My goal is to transport the viewer into a specific paranoia, causing anxiety within each corresponding image, allowing the viewer to experience and recognize common anxiety causing events in a symbolic and film noir-esque way.”
