Historical Context:
Margaret Shaw’s work is a synthesis of cinema and photography techniques that call attention to the stories we live every day. Her photographs challenge the viewer to discover a narrative within the images she creates, and to sympathize with the emotions that are uncovered in the process. On this discovery from within she says, “There exists a world, perhaps a parallel universe, in which the uncanny is every day. Rife with unrest and discomfort, this world tugs at the consciousness of our own narrative. A glimpse into this society may leave you feeling sad, anxious guilty, or fearful.”
