Still Life

Artwork
Medium:
Watercolor, Charcoal and Pastel on Paper
Date:
2010
Dimensions:
Artworks - Height: 60" Width: 45"
Historical Context:
"After creating hundreds of still life paintings and using fruits and vegetables as subject matter, I realized I was reacting to the vulnerability and fragility of life. Fruits and vegetables have skin, they can be damaged, they age and decompose the same as the human body. Life is action and death is still. I have a relative who was serving in the Middle East in 2010. He is still serving in the United States Marines. This painting is a reaction to war. The figure and the coffin are implied. The flag is not." – Patricia Hendricks Constantine
