Huygens Mars Drawing
Medium:Reproduction of Original Drawings
Note: Frame Dimensions: 17" x 11"
These three drawings of Mars, made by Dutch mathematician, astronomer, and physicist Christiaan Huygens on November 28, 1659, may be the earliest astronomical drawings of the planet. In the middle drawing, what eventually became identified as the north polar cap is visible. Huygens, among other discoveries, founded the wave theory of light.
