Historical Context:
Through his artwork, local artist Rick Beerhorst seeks new ways for local artists, community members, and business leaders to partner in creating more areas for art and culture. For over 25 years, his hometown of Grand Rapids was his muse as he painted, drew and meditated on his relationship with the city. Regarding his cherished home he states, "I have left my beloved city and come back many times over the years and I know that I am in very good company. I began painting the city after I returned to Grand Rapids after graduate school in 1988 as a way to re-acclimate myself to once again be living again in my home town. Perhaps painting Grand Rapids was even more about getting to know that city in a deeper way… I have been painting the city off and on ever since." - Rick Beerhorst.
