Pictured in this photograph is the sculptural centerpiece of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, titled La Grande Vitesse, was created by American artist Alexander Calder. The title is French for "the great swiftness" which is also often more locally translated as "grand rapids." The bright red steel sculpture stands at 43 feet tall and weighs over 42 tons.
