Historical Context:
This photograph, taken around 1962 by local Protestant Reformed Church photographer Seymour Beiboer, is looking north at the intersection of Hastings and Fairview NE from Michigan Street. Today, a mural painted to honor the founding of Grand Rapids by Louis Campau in 1826 and early civic leader Charles Belknap is painted on the retaining wall where this wall of sand is in this photograph.
