Historical Context:
"Victorian Jewelry, especially pieces including portraits, gas a long history depicting remembrance, celebration and private mourning. Due to their small nature, portrait miniatures allowed a person to carry with them the image of someone they had lost, a portrait of a newborn baby or a small painting of a newly married couple, These profiles might have been small but they carried great significance to the person wearing them. My series of jewelry reflects that history. Through the use of copper and a warm patina, I created a historical sense reflective of it's victorian inspiration. The plastic resin used to create the "stones" and set the imagery brings currency to the work. This body of work allowed me to look back on different moments in my life to mourn, celebrate, and remember pieces of my past that have made me who I am today." -Katelyn Johnson
