Historical Context:
"Tony Fitzpatrick’s maxim “Never underestimate the importance of dreaming” provides one avenue into understanding the rich, frenetic, and slightly claustrophobic imagery of his etchings. How else can we possibly make sense of these miniaturized worlds in which oddly surrealistic animal/human hybrids populate close quarters with sorcerers, dragons, devil figures, and crossword puzzles; where a clown-faced syringe teeters precariously on a tower and disembodied eyeballs float in clouds?" - excerpt from the Tony Fitzpatrick's exhibit, "Strange and Magical Beasts," held at GVSU in 2017.
