Artwork
Medium:
Acrylic on Canvas
Dimensions:
Artworks - Height: 24 in Width: 36 in
Description:
Large Red circle outlined in white in the center with concentric black circles inside of it. Tan, brown, pink, and red splotches composed of dots surround the center circle
Historical Context:
This painting represents the aboriginal story of the barking spider dreaming. Rather than building a web, the barking spider lives in a hole in the ground. The large concentric circle represents this hole, which artist Don Jungerai refers to as the spider's home. Don is a senior custodian of the Barking Spider and it's associated stories and songs of which he has an intimate knowledge of. He will eventually pass his knowledge on to the next generation.
