Still life painting with red grapes and two apples
Historical Context:
"I have been a realist for many years. Still life has been my favorite subject and for years I painted my favorite objects….arranging and rearranging the shapes and colors following traditional painting techniques. The paintings were usually larger than life…and the subjects were most often unusual or unexpected. I want the viewer to appreciate the world around him…to notice the everyday beauty that exists in what we call ordinary things. However, for the past 15 years or so, I have deviated from that tradition and like to have fun painting ‘characters’ in 3D. In a way I have returned to the playful era of my childhood. I have a sense of humor that was not prominent in my ‘serious’ painting and now I am doing whatever I feel like….but always enjoying painting!" - Jan Miller
