Lady Macbeth is a character in Shakespeare's Macbeth (c.1603–1607). She is the wife of the play's tragic hero, Macbeth, a Scottish nobleman. The play dramatises the damaging physical and psychological effects of political ambition on those who seek power for its own sake.
