Historical Context:
"I have always been intrigued by myths not only for their stories, but also because of their various uses within a culture. Myths have an explanatory nature in which they describe the workings of the world in a fanciful, imaginative way that directly reflects the attitudes and perspectives of a culture in which they originated; moral limits are determined, an ideal to strive toward is established, worldly phenomenon are explained, etc. This interest in myths has spurred me to write my own myth for a bird-like race of people known simply as the Avians. This myth details the creation of their world, outlines the tense relationship they have with humans and the events that lead to their hidden existence." - Jennifer VandeWaa
