A light blue piece of fabric decorated with a palm tree and flower print thrown over a model's hands.
Matt Oberski is a nonbinary photographer working and living in Grand Rapids. Their work strives to represent the less favorable aspects of the human condition in our increasingly digital world. Working with substantial digital manipulation with both analog and digital photography, their most recent bodies of work present gritty representations of isolation, identity, fear and loss. On this photograph from their 2015 Senior Thesis Exhibition as GVSU they state; “Experimenting with light and inertia, I captured the relationship between a thrown fabric and a stationary model. This idea of opposing forces is further exaggerated by the photograph, freezing in time a moment full of energy.”
