A silver-embossed Haida Wolf Drum crest.
Historical Context:
Building upon the broad range of his expression, Bill Reid translated his original designs of animal crests into limited editions silk screen or woodcut prints and drawings. This is a reproduction of one of those drawings. The Wolf is an important figure in the crest hierarchy of the Haida people. Troublesome, volatile, and ferociously playful, he is usually represented with a long snout, sharp fangs, a bushy tail, and ears slanting backwards. The Wolf was one of Bill Reid's personal crests.
