Historical Context:
"The human form is a natural vehicle for exploring the world around us, our senses wire directly to psychological experiences. In this body of work I rely on figurative representation as a point of entry for the audience- something each individual can relate to on the most fundamental of levels. Our bodies can understand art in ways that our mind can not. The work emphasizes absence, as suggested through simple shells or fragments of a whole. Materials such as paper and cloth carry themes of vulnerability and loss, but also of connection. To accept vulnerability is not the same as to accept weakness, and regardless of their fragile composition, these pieces have underlying strength." -Sara Weimer
