Historical Context:
"In my current body of work, I focus on specific animals from the biome I inhabit in the upper Midwest. These animals are currently on the endangered species list, primarily because of the loss of their habitat. The prints explore the results of how current culture is encroaching on the land and water of the animals. Incorporation of man-made objects into my imagery contrasts with the animals' natural habitat. These objects are chosen for their shape, which is repeated in the animal and its environment. This suggests the repetition of day to day activities that may harm animals. Techniques such as cutting, engraving, piercing, and scoring wood and resin-grave have become a way of meditating on the problems that I cause to animals." - Evelyn Mix
