A dead sunflower in the center rests on what appears to be a wooden banister.
Historical Context:
This still life was accidentally composed in the basement stairwell in the house we rented before we purchased the farm. We had cut the heads of sunflower plants and we hung those in the stairwell to be fed to the birds later during the winter.
