Historical Context:
The repetitive turn of the throwing wheel, the feel of the clay between your hands, the smell of the wet dirt and minerals that make up the clay- sometimes art isn’t just about the process or the end product, but about using enhancing your five senses and really becoming one with your surroundings. Creating artwork can be used as a time to meditate on life. As Kate Lewis states about her current career as an artist: “I think the current phase of my career where I don’t have to think as much about what I’m making…it’s more just being productive with my thoughts while I’m doing my work.”
