Historical Context:
Benjamin Jean Pierre Henri Riviere was born in Montmartre, Paris in 1864. He joined teacher and academic painter Emile "Pere" Bin in his studio to learn to paint. Riviere was discovered by the Chat Noir artistic cabaret in 1882. He held his first exhibition in 1886.
