Historical Context:
Benjamin Jean Pierre Henri Riviere was born in Montmartre, Paris in 1864. Riviere was discovered by the Chat Noir artistic cabaret in 1882. He joined teacher and academic painter, Emile "Pere" Bin in his studio to learn to paint. By 1866, Riviere was having his own private art exhibitions.
