Historical Context:
"The bucolic still life is grafted into my psyche. Visiting my mother recently, I realized I learned my flower arrangement sensibility from her. Full and heavy at the rim, overflowing and floppy, as though just picked from the woods. The Indiana woods, where the first Salt and Peppers and Dutchmans Britches arrive in early March. Where my mother would send my sister and I off in search of the first spring flowers. She always has flowers around and still sets them by my bed stand when I come to sleep in my childhood bed at my childhood home where my parents still live." - Melanie Parke
