Medium:
Linocut and Watercolor
Date:
2012
Historical Context:
This artwork was featured in Samii Gach's Bachelor of Fine Arts senior thesis exhibition in 2012. The exhibition, titled "Reverie," included Gach's illustration work, as well as metal work and textile designs by two other GVSU students. Each student's work represented their perspective on the world and how it has changed from childhood to adulthood, and in Gach's case, how the world has become slightly darker and more realistic. On their work, Gach commented, "The duplicity to my personality has become an intricate part of who I am. The contrast between playful and serious is an important part of this work. The relationship of the carousel horse, whimsical and light-hearted compared to the works of [Edgar Allen] Poe seemed like a fascinating combination to me."
