Pennsylvania-born Alexander Calder was an American sculptor and artist. He is famous in Grand Rapids for creating the well-known, brilliant orange centerpiece, "La Grand Vitesse," which has become a local icon for the town's annual Festival of the Arts, a festival inspired by Calder himself.
