Historical Context:
Paul Ranson was born in Limoges, France and studied art at l'École des Arts Décoratifs, and later at l'Académie Julian in 1886. As a result of his studies at Julian, he became an integral member of the Nabis group of artists. In 1908 he co-founded l'Académie Ranson with his wife, Marie-France, where they taught the Nabis art style, methods and philosophy.
