Oil portrait of Roman character with toga and head wreath sitting at table with wine and donuts. Water kettle in bottom left.
Historical Context:
Alyssa Parsons studied illustration and painting at the Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University, Grand Rapids. She works largely with portraiture and book illustration, including recent work with children's books. She says that her desire to study illustration comes from her childhood, stating, "As a kid I loved to browse through bookstores- partly to find new reads, but mostly to look at all the beautiful cover illustrations. My early fascination with book covers never faded." If this image was a book cover, it would tell the story of a modern Bacchus, the Roman god of agriculture, wine and fertility.
