Historical Context:
Amy Masko is an associate professor of English at Grand Valley State University. She received her Bachelor's in Science from Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, Michigan; her Master's in Education from Lesley University, Cambridge, Massachussets; and her Doctorate from the University of Denver, Colorado. Her collection of photographs were taken in Ghana, Africa, where she took her sabbatical in 2009. The sabbatical was funded in part by the Fulbright Award, and sent her to the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, where she studied "schooling practices of Ghanaian village schools, [and examined] the congruence between home and school cultural norms". Masko also taught in the English department while at the university.
