Historical Context:
Jon Onye Lockard has been a faculty member at both Washtenaw Community College and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan; and his career in painting has spanned more than 40 years. Aside from teaching and painting, he is currently Associate Director of The Society for the Study of African American Culture and Aesthetics, and also started his own company "Visions of Destiny" to display and sell his artwork. Lockard's work is largely based around cultural motifs, in particular his own African heritage.
