Historical Context:
Reb Roberts, whose signature often reads "REB", is known for his unworldly, colorful characters and abstract designs with positive messages. Local Grand Rapids artist, Roberts also owned Sanctuary Folk Art, and as a gallery owner made great strides in promoting local art in the Downtown, Eastown and Creston Neighborhoods/ Districts of Grand Rapids. Regarding his work he says, "Art can be a part of a sustainable urban environment... With some true collaboration, neighborhoods and artists can work to incorporate original ideas into an art filled city… [A]rt is the next truly urban frontier."
