Historical Context:
Ando Hiroshige was one of the last great Japanese artists in the tradition of "ukiyo-e," the genre of art that includes Japanese woodblock prints and paintings. His work is recognized for its unique vantage points, employing Western principles of perspective in order to achieve depth, as well as recurring seasonal themes. He worked extensively within the realm of "meisho-e," Japanese for "pictures of famous places."
