Abstraction of a cityscape with a church steeple dominating the right corner. A cyclist and some cars are discernible on the grey street. Building are brown and grey, and the sky is grey and cream.
This view of the steeple of the Zuiderkerk, or South Church, of Amsterdam was and is a familiar sight to the artist. The scene was made looking southeast from an upper story of Kloveniers Burgwal 46 at the street's intersection with Oude Hoofdstraat. The Zuiderkerk was completed in 1614 as the city's first church built for Prostetant services.
