Historical Context:
Dan Watts is known for combining photography and his love for anthropology. He has traveled to 34 countries for various photography projects. Most recently, he spent a year of travel to create photo essays of each of the five sister cities of Grand Rapids. These include the Cherry Blossom and the Fire Festival in Imihachiman, Japan; the architecture of Perugia, Italy; Beilsko-Biala, Poland; people of the Ga District of Ghana in West Africa; and Zapopan, Mexico. At a grand total of 16,855 photographs, this collection marks the single largest collection of Sister-City photography in the world. His work is on permanent display at the JW Marriott in downtown Grand Rapids.
