Historical Context:
In commemoration of the 200th anniversary of John James Audubon's birth, the National Audubon Society and Abbeville Press reprinted the entire edition of John James Audubon's "Birds of America," a comprehensive field guide spanning four-volumes and covering over 1,100 bird species, originally printed in 1838. John James Audubon was a French-American ornithologist (branch of zoology that concerns the study of birds), naturalist, hunter and painter who is most famous for cataloging and describing the bird species of North America.
