Historical Context:
"Motherhood is viewed in modern society as something that is always happy, while this is not always the case. In fact, a lot of time it is full of many emotions ranging from happy to anxiousness to depression and guilt...Figures are there while not all there, emphasizing the passage of time and the slippage of control that happens... In the work 'Child', the child is displaying a certain mood, shifting and changing ever so slightly. What remains of his past movement is a reminder of time passing, and the ever changing nature of children." -Stephanie Nienhouse
