A piece depicting a large cathedral to the left. The cathedral has a large tower located near the center of the piece. There are three floors of windows on the cathedral. There is a building to the right of the piece. It is several stories high, the top has several spires on it located where the walls meet each other. There are a dozen or so figures in the plaza between the two.
Historical Context:
Vincenzo Volpi, a native Florentine, is a founding member of the Studio Calcografico Ippogrifo in Florence which has become a thriving center for the study of the ancient art of etching. He and his family now reside in the Mugello region of Tuscany. His wife hand-colors the etchings in watercolor.
