David Gilhooly is a well-known sculptor who is recognized primarily for his ceramic sculptures of animals, food, planets and his unique "FrogWorld" pieces. Gilhooly graduated from the University of California at Davis, receiving his Bachelor of Art in 1965 and his Master of Art two years later. He and his college friends were big players in the "Funk Ceramic Movement" of the San Francisco Bay Area, which was an extension of the Funk Art Movement of the 1920s, a movement that rejected the non-objectivity of abstract expressionism. In 1996 his style moved from clay works to what he calls "the shadow boxes", and whose medium is primarily Plexiglas.
